Written by dcPages

When working on my dc Redial Android App, I had to learn how to work with the Android Call Log Content Provider. The information I used was spread over several different sources, so I figured I would post an article detailing how to work with the Android Call Log Content Provider.

dc Smart Tip Calculator PDF Print E-mail
Written by dcPages

The dc Smart Tip Calculator is more than just a tip calculator. It includes all the basic features of a tip calculator, including: bill amount, tip percent, split bill, back out tax, and round tip or total. However, in addition to all the basic functions, it also included the ability to rate your service in four categories: speed, accuracy, courtesy and personality. By rating your service, the dc Smart Tip Calculator is able to recommend a tip amount to match the quality of service you received. This is all based on the old adage that you should never encourage bad service by always tipping the standard rate. Basically, if you get great service, you can and SHOULD tip more than the standard amount. And, conversely, if you get poor service, you ought to tip less than the standard amount to let your server know that they need to improve.

To be honest, I've worked in food service, and I often find that I actually over-tip my servers, so this app helps me be more realistic with my tips. At the same time however, I have had some REALLY bad service over the years, and this app helps to make sure that I still give them credit for what they did right, even in spite of the aspects of their job where they fell short.

Let me know what you think about the app, either via email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or submit a comment below. Also, if you like the app, consider donating using the button on the left.

Thanks,

In a touch screen environment, like Android, where users often don't have a full keyboard, like many Android phones, the ability to simply select an item from a pre-determined list is absolutely vital. It's easier for the user to select what they want - rather than have to type it, it protects your databases from junk data and typos by limiting choices to pre-defined, pre-screened responses. The Android OS has a very robust, user friendly and - relatively - programmer friendly way to handle this: the Android Spinner.

Joomla Module Tutorial PDF Print E-mail

&am

Joomla! Modules are probably one of the most important types of extensions for a Joomla! CMS installation. Sure, plugins are nice, but modules actually display something on your website, and they're flexible enough to go just about anywhere. There are lots of modules available all over the web to do all sorts of things, and many of those are free. But what if you want a module to do something on your site and you can't find an existing Joomla! extension that will do it the way you want, or what if you're like me, and you just like doing things yourself, figuring stuff out and just generally getting your hands dirty. Well, don't worry, creating your own Joomla! Module is pretty easy, and this tutorial will guide you through the basics.
